today I will have a closer look into this Whisky:

Glenburgie 1995/2024 SC 23yo To Beautiful Youth

I got this sample from a bottle share in China.

What are my expectations? Well, considering the color, casks, age and ABV I expect this Whisky to be very complex. I expect the oak to be present but hopefully not too tart and bitter. Furthermore I expect it to be very fruity. I really looking forward to try this one. But first give it some time in the glass to breath. In this case considering the age I will let it breath for at least one hour.
During that time I will have it covered. I will use my tulip shaped glass.

Let’s see if it can surprise me and that hopefully in a positive way since I really like old Bourbon cask matured Glenburgie for their rich fruitiness

Appearance:
Color: Gold brown. Very oily as the streaks on the glass flow down slowly.

Nose: 84/100 points
First time smelling on the glass sends an alcoholic sting to the nose which is quite surprising considering that the ABV is only 48.1%. Over the time it is getting a bit better and some bright fruits, malt and hay show up. Also some herbs I can find. However it doesn’t has the typical Glenburgie nose and the distillery character I can’t find here. Something is missing. The alcohol comes back and is here to stay. It is not well integrated.
After a very long time it opens up a bit more and some sweet notes appear. Still not what I was expecting.

Taste: 90/100 points
here we go, yessss!! This is how it should taste. Completely the opposite of the nose.
Here I have the typical Glenburgie character.
Lots of bright and yellow fruits, plenty of herbs, malt, honey, sweet notes and vanilla. Also lots of floral notes as well as some oak and leather. Very complex experience. Great summer Whisky taste. Very delicious! As longer you keep it inside your mouth as more flavors you will find which stimulates the saliva flow.

Finish: 88/100 points
wonderful aromatic finish.
many of the flavor I had on the palate can also be found here.
The finish stays very long. Very complex also here and it is a joy to taste it.
Makes you want to take a big swallow

Conclusion:
I was really surprised and very disappointed when I first smelled it. For me the nose is totally off and by far to alcoholic for that rather low ABV. Many typical flavors are missing and it doesn’t appear to be 23yo or of a good cask quality.
However the taste on the palate and the finish removed the bad experience from the nose and let me enjoy this Whisky. This is for sure one to sip and not to smell.
If it wouldn’t open up in the nose after a long time I would only rate it in the nose 81 points.
So, nose very disappointing but taste wise a great dram.
I am only wondering what happened to the missing 6 years when you see the distillation and bottling date. From those dates I should be around 28-29 years old.
