today I will have a closer look into this Whisky:
Old Pulteney 16yo Traveller’s Exclusive
What are my expectations? Well, considering the color, casks, age and ABV and the distillery, I expect this Whisky to be a bit maritime and I expect to find the flavors of the Spanish oak cask. The 46% ABV should be efficient to transport the flavors. But first give it some time in the glass to breath. In this case considering the age I will let it breath for 20 minutes.
During that time I will have it covered.
Let’s see if it can surprise me and that hopefully in a positive way 🙂
Appearance:
Color: very dark copper. medium oily as the streaks on the glass flow back down in a semi slow speed.
Nose: 87/100 points
Yellow fruits, mainly apple, caramel, a bit vanilla, also a bit salt appears. Slightly mineral and a few orange peels I get as well. after a while the oak flavors step in.
Taste: 87/100 points
Oily and slightly sweet start. then the fruits step in with the yellow apple and some citrus fruits. Vanilla and caramel also show up. After a while also here the oak kicks in with a slightly spicy note.
Finish: 86/100 points
The finish shows itself very fruity with the yellow apple and in the same time with a nice combination of salt and caramel. It lingers medium long.
Conclusion:
If you like Old Pulteney then this is the right whisky for you. It fulfills the expectations that you have for the distillery character of OP. Only the sherry casks I didn’t really get in this one. From the flavors it appeared more to be a bourbon cask matured whisky. But still very delicious.
Overall I give this Whisky: 87/100 WhiskyYoda points
