today I will have a closer look into this Whisky:
Craigellachie 1995 DL Private Stock
I got this sample from a bottle share in Germany.
What are my expectations? Well, considering the color, casks, age and ABV I expect this Whisky to be enormous complex. I expect the sherry flavors to be quite intense but hopefully not too strong. I really looking forward to try this one. But first give it some time in the glass to breath. In this case I let it breath for more than 3 hours.
During most of that time I will have it covered.
Let’s see if it can surprise me and that hopefully in a positive way 🙂
Appearance:
Color: Copper. Very oily as the streaks on the glass flow down very slow.
Nose: 89/100 points
Dark fruits, many spices, clove, oranges, moldy old oak with moss. Some herbal notes. A bit sulfur shows up as well as a slightly floral note. Spicy and a bit sharp in the nose.
Taste: 90/100 points
strong start with many oak and fruits. Sweet with honey, oranges, herbal notes and dark chocolate. leather and a bit spicy. A bit tabaco and coffee comes through. Very complex.
Finish: 88/100 points
strong finish with many fruits, herbal notes and oak. a bit sour and tart at the end. Lasts very long. Some Espresso shows up.
Conclusion:
very nice malt with a unique, distinct and rather difficult to describe profile. Very nice malt. If you get the chance to try that one I definitely recommend to do it.
Overall I give this Whisky: 90/100 WhiskyYoda points
