Glen Grant 50-year-old GM

today I will have a closer look into this Whisky:

Glen Grant 50yo from Gordon & MacPhail

I got this sample from a bottle share in Germany.

What are my expectations? Well, considering the color, casks, age and ABV I expect this Whisky to be enormous complex. I expect the oak to be quite intense but hopefully not too tart and bitter. I also expect to get a lot of dried fruits. I really looking forward to try this one. But first give it some time in the glass to breath. In this case considering the age I will let it breath for at least one hour.
During that time I will have it covered.

Let’s see if it can surprise me and that hopefully in a positive way because I hear a lot of great things about this bottling 🙂

Appearance:
Color: Mahogany. Very oily as the streaks on the glass flow down very slowly.

Nose: 94/100 points
Lots of dark fruits, chocolate, old oak furniture, furniture polish, raisins, some plums, honey, orange peels, red berries, Espresso, leather, soft, the alcohol is excellently integrated. Very voluminous and complex. As longer it breathes as more flavors are released.

Taste: 98/100 points
sweet dark dried fruits, really a lot of it. Amazing volume. Raisins, plums, furniture polish, old oak kitchen furniture, orange peels, leather, Espresso, dark honey, chocolate, red berries, leather. Incredible complex.

Finish: 95/100 points
wonderful aromatic finish.
Here the leather flavors are most intense. But the dries fruits are here as well. Overall can find all flavors from the palate. Just less intense because the leathery oaky notes are in the foreground. Even it has only 40% ABV the finish lasts very long.

Conclusion:
the force is strong with this one. All of the aspects and flavors of this Whisky fulfilled my expectations to 100%. This is a fantastic Whisky and it was a great experience to try this one. Definitely one of the best I had so far when it comes to the flavors on the palate.

Overall I give this Whisky: 96/100 WhiskyYoda points
