Bunnahabhain 2007 ED The First Editions Cask# HL 19519

today I will have a closer look into this Whisky since the level in the bottle is getting lower and lower 🙂

Bunnahabhain 14yo Vintage 2007 Cask# HL 19519

I did a bottle share a while ago here in China but I didn’t find the time before to give it a review.

What are my expectations? Well, considering the color, casks, age and ABV I expect this Whisky to be lesser complex since it is a Refill cask but in the same time the oak should be less present. I expect that it is sweet and fruity. I’m looking forward to try this one. But first give it some time in the glass to breath. In this case considering the age I will let it breath for about half an hour.
During that time I will have it not covered.

Let’s see if it can surprise me and that hopefully in a positive way 🙂

Appearance:
Color: very bright, nearly clear. Less oily as the streaks on the glass flow down quite quickly

Nose: 87/100 points
malty and lightly sweet, the alcohol is a bites a bit in the nose. Some cereals and bright fruits. There is no smoky flavors in the nose. Some mint and herbs show up later as well as some nuts. The nose is more complex than I expected.

Taste: 86/100 points
strong start, quite fruity. Actually very fruity. Makes your mouth watering. slightly sweet and many citrus fruits. Some young oak is also there. Later fruit sourness shows up.

Finish: 85/100 points
fruity and a bit sour. I would describe it as fruit sourness. getting bitter to the end. But the finish lasts very long. Mainly with light sweet and malty flavors.

Conclusion:
It did well. Better than I thought. Very fruity in the profile but at the end a bit sour bitter. Nice malt.

Overall I give this Whisky: 86/100 WhiskyYoda points
