today I will have a closer look into this Whisky:
Bunnahabhain 2011 Aonadh Limited Release – Warehouse 9
What are my expectations? Well, considering the color, casks, age and ABV I expect this Whisky to be very fruity in its flavors. I expect the Sherry influence shows up in dark fruits while I hope to find some berries as well from the Port Cask Finish. I really looking forward to trying this one. But first give it some time in the glass to breath. In this case considering the age I will let it breath for 15 minutes minimum. Maybe even a bit longer like 30 minutes. Let’s see how it develops.
During that time, I will have it covered, and I am using my tulip shaped WhiskyYoda glass.
Let’s see if it can surprise me and that hopefully in a positive way 🙂
Because as you can see in the pic, the corks of the Bunna bottles are usually shitty and very often break, I am mostly satisfied with the liquid itself 😀
Appearance:
Color: clear Mahogany. Very oily as the streaks flow down quite slow on the glass wall.
Nose: 86/100 points
Very closed at the beginning. Less red fruity than I thought. I expected to get here many Sherry flavors, but in the nose the Port Finish flavors are more dominant. I get some berries, citrus fruits like oranges and some nutty flavors. But somehow, I have the feeling that those should be stronger noticeable especially considering the ABV. One need to hold the nose deep into the glass. Later comes some leather and a hint of tabaco. Far in the background there are some more red fruits which could be from the Sherry cask.
Taste: 88/100 points
yeah!!! That’s what I am talking about!
these are the flavors I expected and missed in the nose. Here the dried red fruits are really intense. Plums, raisins, orange peels are here most noticeable. But also, the berries are back again as well las the nuts and the leather. What comes new are sweet flavors of chocolate and caramel. The tabaco is also here and some pepper which rounds up the flavor profile. Becoming oily if you keep it longer in the mouth.
Most intense however are the dark dried fruits here which is really nice.
Finish: 87/100 points
wonderful aromatic and strong finish.
Here the red and dried fruits are also the strongest combined with sweet flavors of chocolate, caramel and nuts. The finish lasts medium long. To the end getting slightly tart.
Overall, the finish appears to be drier than the palate which could come from the Port Finish.
Conclusion:
the force is strong with this one. Many of the aspects and flavors of this Whisky fulfilled my expectations. Just the nose didn’t fulfill my expectations. However, that is a beautiful Whisky and definitely worth trying.
Overall I give this Whisky: 87/100 WhiskyYoda points
